Energy and the environment

Body

Canada's natural environment provides us with an abundance of energy resources. These resources are an important part of the country's natural wealth and contribute to our economic well-being. At the same time, the production of all forms of energy has some impact on the environment, for example, through the production of wastes. The capacity of the environment to supply us with energy resources and absorb these wastes is finite.

The relationship between energy use and the environment is complex, and the Energy and the Environment pages present information on multiple aspects of this relationship, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. For information specifically related to GHG emissions, please visit the Greenhouse gas emissions page.

The Canadian Centre for Energy Information (CCEI) is an "evergreen" portal and is intended to be updated continuously. Additional information expanding on the links between energy and the environment will be added to these pages on an ongoing basis.
